Nonclassical oscillations in pre- and post-selected quantum walks

چکیده
Quantum walks are counterparts of classical random walks. They spread faster, which can be exploited in information processing tasks, and constitute a versatile simulation platform for many quantum systems. Yet, some their properties emulated with light. This rises question: aspects the model truly nonclassical? We address it by carrying out photonic experiment based on pre- post-selection paradox. The paradox implies that if somebody could choose to ask, either particle is at position x = 0 even time steps, or d (d > 1) odd answer would positive, no matter question asked. Therefore, seems undergo long distance oscillations despite fact allows jump one time. translate this into Bell-like inequality experimentally confirm its violation up eight standard deviations.

The Curious Quantum Mechanics of Pre- and Post-Selected Ensembles
In a provocative paper, (~) Albert, Aharonov, and D'Amato proposed an analysis of preand post-selected ensembles in quantum mechanics (PPS ensembles) which seemed to show that in the interval between preand post-selection, certain noncommuting observables all have determinate values. Moreover, these values are context dependent: The value assumed by a degenerate observable (e.g., an observable ...
متن کاملSecure Key Distribution via Pre- and Post-Selected Quantum Ensembles
A quantum key distribution scheme whose security depends on the features of preand post-selected quantum ensembles is described. PACS numbers: 03.65.Bz, 42.80.Sa, 89.70.+c A wide variety of quantum key distribution schemes have been proposed, following the original Bennett and Brassard protocol [1]. Ekert [2] has described a scheme in which two parties, Alice and Bob, create a shared random key...
متن کاملElliptic Curve Cryptography: Pre and Post Quantum
Public-key cryptography has been at the center of online communication and information transfer for decades. With computing power growing at an exponential rate, some of the most widely used encryption schemes are starting to show their limits. The RSA algorithm, which is still widely used around the world, now requires very large keys to ensure security. Since these systems may appear on low c...
متن کاملInteraction with a pre and post selected environment and recoherence
The interaction of an open system S with a preand post-selected environment is studied. In general, under such circumstances S can not be described in terms of a density matrix, even when S in not post-selected. However, a simple description in terms of a two-state (TS) is always available. The two-state of S evolves in ti me from an initially ‘pure’ TS to a ‘mixed’ TS and back to a final ‘pure...
متن کاملQuantum Logic and Nonclassical Logics
Classical logic is sometimes described as “the logic of an omniscient mind in a deterministic universe”. From an intuitive point of view the basic features of classical semantics can be summarized as follows: 1) any problem is semantically decided : for any sentence α, either α or its negation ¬α is true (excluded middle principle); at the same time, a sentence α and its negation ¬α cannot be b...
